Juneau – July 10,2017
We arrived in Juneau at 3:45am, headed to Mendenhall campground, plugged in and went to sleep in the pouring rain. Got up at 10 and headed downtown. We managed to squeeze into a street parking space. We walked over to the civic centre where the visitor’s centre was said to be in Lonely Planet. The VC had moved 6 years ago. The folks at the CC were getting ready to host Amy Grant that evening and although they were very busy, they were very helpful when we asked for a lunch recommendation. We headed to The Rookery and had a nice lunch.
Off to the cruise ship docks where the VC was located. Two humongous cruise ships in the port. The main event was a gondola ride to the top of Mount Roberts. We hemmed and hawed as the weather wasn’t great. When we found out there would be 7 cruise ships docked tomorrow, we went straight to the top. The weather cleared and we got some fantastic views of the area.
We were pretty tired from our ferry evening so headed to Costco where you can buy discounted wine. We were running low.
On the way to Costco we saw this hilarious Wizard of Oz tribute by a metal worker. Just for you Nancy Ross
We also bought some supplies and since there is no internet, cable, or over the air TV, bought some Hercule Poirot DVDs, went back to the campsite, made some ribs and snuggled in for a Poirot marathon. A great camp and few neighbours.
