Well so far the trip has been uneventful from a disaster point of view – sorry to disappoint those who revel in the misfortune of others. After fetching the RV from Henry Ho at Maple Leaf Storage, filling it with food, wine and a quick trip to Canadian Tire, we caught the ferry from Vancouver to Victoria and stayed at the Fort Royal RV park. It doesn’t compare to the US RV resorts but was OK for a couple of nights. We took the RV into downtown Victoria around 10 AM and Doug took me on a forced march of the entire downtown. They were setting up for the big festivities that evening. The highlight was afternoon tea at the Empress – $187.00 for 2 not including tip – about $10.00 a bite of a tiny sandwich. The last time I was at the Empress was to view the royal wedding with the lovely Fiona back in 1981. I think the tea was $5.95.
We drove back to the RV place for an afternoon snooze and hit Victoria again around 5 for the entertainment. Delhi to Dublin had some catchy tunes with the enthusiastic support of the crowd. Some people should not dance in public! Tegan and Sara were not our cup of tea but the crowd loved them. The stage was set on the grounds of the legislative building. By the time we left it was standing room only.
Today we drove to Campbell River. We saw many eagles on the way north. Popped by Crabby Bob’s by the sea and purchased clam chowder for lunch and some fresh salmon that we will BBQ later this evening. Walked over to Elk Falls, across the suspension bridge and escaped from an enormous wasp nest without injury.
We are camped at a lovely spot right by the river. The weather thus far has been spectacular. I just spied a Spotted Towhee. A lifer!
